Two Trick Pony: Stationery & Notecards

Have you ever fallen in love with an inanimate object? An object that just seems PERFECT, for reasons only you might understand? I think most of us have felt like that at one time in our life (though the more rational among us probably grow out of it with our stuffed animals).

I am in love with a small plastic cup.

Years ago, I worked with a very dear friend who kept this mug at work for her tea. I admired it every day at lunch; the adorable illustration, the delightfully dated typography…even the little red handle and footed base made my heart skip a beat. Every detail about this mug seemed just right. And what was Autocrat, anyway? A brand of coffee? Tea? What WILL a swallow tell me? My friend found my infatuation hilarious; for her, it was just some ol’ mug that she brought to work.

When she left that job, she tucked the mug into my locker on her last day. I was beside myself with glee. It’s been over 6 years, and my love affair continues. I have since learned that Autocrat is a coffee flavored syrup peculiar to Rhode Island, used for making “coffee milk.” I haven’t tried it yet, oddly enough, but I sure do admire the way it looks on the shelf.

Anyone out there an Autocrat addict?
