Minimalist, Schminimalist

It’s no secret that my most of my aesthetic is derived from fairly modern influences - mid-century graphic design, Scandinavian interiors, the color gray - but there is also a small kernel of my heart that yearns to go full-on maximalist. This piece of me craves a room decked out in pink and ochre, with Chinese silk lanterns, thrift store lamps, and something, ANYTHING, covered with giant roses. Michael Quinn’s Sneak Peek on Design*Sponge has reignited my longing for all that razzamatazz. (Photo above by Michelle Talan)

My last bachelorette apartment was packed to the brim with this aesthetic (in fact, my pink, orange and red bedroom was affectionately dubbed “Opium Den der Bun-Bun” due to the draped fabrics and bunny collection) but moving in to an open plan loft with my (now) husband made that sort of aesthetic more difficult to pull off…and much more difficult to maintain since older lofts are SO DUSTY. Now that we’re living in a house with smaller rooms, it might be time to reinvent a bit of our living space. I’m thinking my office in the new house might look pretty in pink. With gold pom-pom trim.
